More recently, tourism has become an important aspect of the Macaw Sanctuary. Without the finances that tourist bring in, both through entrance fees and donations, it is doubtful that the project would be as successful as it is. All of the money received from tourism is put back into maintaining and developing the project to ensure that the Macaws and the other animals get the greatest and most beneficial care.
At Macaw Sanctuary El Manantial we work hard to ensure that we try and follow the globally recognised principles of Ecotourism - a visit to the project provides guests with an ecologically sustainable experience with
a primary focus on providing an experience that promotes environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation.
We hope that by doing this we can reach out to a broader worldwide community and encourage more visitors to the project. This will ensure that more people are educated on the issues our animals face and will hopefully mean that when they return back to their homes, they will pass this important information onto others.
The Ecotourism Program has been developed to teach others around the world about the importance of conserving these species and their habitats.
This goes beyond teaching the local community and extends out to an international audience creating worldwide awareness.
At the same time tourists aid us in receiving additional financial support for the maintenance and growth of the project.
